Documentation & Guides
Master the Sync for Notion automations. Learn how data flows, how to safeguard your custom properties, and how to utilize premium features successfully.
Rule #1: The Source of Truth
The core philosophy of our engine is strict integrity. The external app (Google Sheets, Gmail, Todoist) is always your absolute Master Database. Notion acts as a beautiful, flexible visualization layer.
⚠️ Warning for 1-Way Sync (Starter & Basic Plans)
If Bidirectional Sync is disabled, the system flows in one direction only (Source ➔ Notion). If you manually edit a synced cell in Notion, the bot will overwrite that cell in Notion back to the original value from your Master Database during the next minute. Data does not travel backwards in 1-way mode.

Google Sheets: Feature Matrix
The Google Sheets automation actively monitors both schema (columns) and data (cells). Here is exactly how it reacts depending on your switches:
Switch Config:
Bidirectional: OFFUnify: OFFColumns Schema
Any extra column manually created in Notion will be deleted by the bot.
Data Cells
Text edits to a synced cell in Notion will be overwritten back to the Sheets value.
Rows
New rows in Notion are archived. Deleted rows in Sheets are archived in Notion.
Switch Config:
Bidirectional: ONUnify: OFFColumns Schema
Any extra column manually created in Notion will still be deleted.
Data Cells
An edit inside a Notion cell will automatically push and update Google Sheets.
Rows
Creating a row in Notion automatically creates it in Google Sheets.
Switch Config:
Bidirectional: OFFUnify: ONColumns Schema
Extra columns (e.g. 'Status') manually created in Notion are protected forever.
Data Cells
However, editing a mapped cell in Notion gets overwritten back (because 1-way sync is active).
Rows
New rows in Notion are archived. Only your Google Sheets rows populate data.
Switch Config:
Bidirectional: ONUnify: ONColumns Schema
Total Safety. Custom extra columns created in Notion are fully preserved and ignored by the bot.
Data Cells
Total Freedom. Text edits inside synced cells in Notion instantly update Google Sheets.
Rows
Rows flow dynamically in both directions between platforms.
Specific Integration Rules
Gmail
Gmail automations use a Starred Checkbox in Notion to control your email highlights.
⚠️ Requirement
To use the Starred Checkbox in Notion as a remote control, Bidirectional Sync must be ON (Pro/Premium Plans). Unchecking the box in Notion will send an API call to Gmail.
Note: 1-way sync users cannot unstar emails from Notion; the bot will simply overwrite the uncheck back to Checked.
Todoist
Todoist syncs active tasks to your board. Priority tags (P1 to P4) map directly into Notion Select fields.
⚠️ Requirement
To magically close Todoist tasks directly inside Notion, Bidirectional Sync must be ON (Pro/Premium Plans). Checking 'Completed' or moving a task to a 'Closed' column in Notion will instantly close the task in Todoist.
